Christmas party with my lovely compa, Hermana Hatt. Also that was the first time I curled my hair in 5 months! Isn't it long and blonde and healthy! YAY
Can we just take a moment and appreciate that on the 25th of December I have my 6th cumplemes (Mom's note: rough English equivalent is month-versary), I complete one third of my mission, I GET TO SKYPE HOME, and it's Christmas Day?? So stoked. Time seriously flies. Oh, and I got letters and packages yesterday! THANK YOU, MOM!! I LOVE YOU! But I won't open it till Christmas morning :)

First off, shoutout to Momma Ward! Your son is seriously the funniest Elder ever. I'm so grateful to have him in our ward because there's never a dull moment with him. Also, he loves you A LOT. And thanks for the packages, because we're definitely going to make him share ;)

Well, I wanted to fill you in a bit on how cool my hija is (Hermana Hatt). She's from Green River Utah and she's graduated from college! She went to SUU and majored in Elementary Ed! She taught school this past year and has taught English in China! Isn't she cool?? And she's great because we all know how patient I am with children (that would be 0) so she helps me. :) I am having such a blast with her!

This week hasn't exactly been the easiest, we had to drop a lot of investigators and kind of start anew. (Ellayne and Otto and Mirna we are going to leave for a little bit. It breaks my heart.) but we're super grateful because despite it all the Lord is still a Lord of miracles and we get to see them daily. This week we left our phone in the grass and couldnt find it later, and we were pretty upset about it. It's basically impossible to function without a phone and ESPECIALLY without all the contacts because ward directories dont really exsist here. But my comp prayed we could figure things out, and the next day the guy who found it got it back to us!! IN NICARAGUA!! He was from a poor area and definitely could have benefited from selling that phone somewhere, but he returned it anyway. The Christmas spirit is real. Christ is real. I love this place.

Well in other news the new Taylor Swift songs make me trunkie like no other and so does the Love Story/Viva La Vida piano mix by John Schmidt because it makes me miss my best friend. And we watched the Maze Runner for the mission Christmas party yesterday. Why all the Elders voted for that over Frozen will confuse me forever but it's fine. It was fun. Just wish I would have finished the book in 9th grade. haha

I love you all and hope you have a merry, Christ-centered Christmas. HE IS THE GIFT!! See you Thursday!!

Training and Christmas and Baptisms, Oh my!

My lovely hija (daughter - mission slang for trainee) and me on her first day here :)
SHE'S WHITE!!! President emailed me this week and told me he and the Lord trust in me and to keep doing what I'm doing... and that eventually I'll have a Latina companion. Hahaha. But Hermana Hatt is so fun! We're having a blast! It's a little stressful jumping from Junior companion to a trainer but I'm handling it. We have a goal in the mission for every companionship to baptize 3 people in December, and I'm really hoping we achieve it. We have a lot of super cool families that are right on that edge... Keep Mirna and Elaine and Otto in your prayers that they'll know that this is the step they need to take :) They need them! And also my ability to speak Spanish... I'm pretty functional and I understand almost everything.. But since I'm teaching instead of learning right now I could definitely use the prayers! ;) haha

I'm not sure what else to say! It's been a pretty crazy but fairly uneventful week! I just know that God loves His children and that I am so blessed because I get to help Him show that love through teaching the gospel here in Nicaragua. :) Have a great week!

I'M A MOM!!!

Michelle and Hermana Wheat
(Mother's note: Mission Lingo - Dead means they're going home this transfer, killing someone means you are their last companion and will be sending them home, having a baby or becoming a mom means you're going to train a new missionary, and a grandmother is someone who trained your trainer. Hope that helps!)

I'm going to borrow the idea from a friend and start my email with a quote of the week, which was said by my dear, dead companion Hermana Wheat. ¨Ugh, I hate it when the policemen look at me all gross. How can I feel safe if they're willing to rape me too??¨ HAHA! I was dying. But don't worry. I can feel the angels around us. I couldn't be more safe :)

BUT HEY! The best news of the week is that on the same day that I officially kill my grandmother, I'm going to receive my first daughter!! I'm going to train!! WHAT. I barely know this language and I've only been here for 5 months! I feel so privileged The craziest part?? I dont know who I'm training. President isn't going to choose their trainer this time until he meets them in their first interview. But there are 3 gringas coming in and 1 Latina. I told Pres I wanted the Latina. hahaha We'll see.

In other news, we completed the transfer with only 7 baptisms. BUT we put the goal of 7 more for December so we're going to have faith we see 14 soon :)

Also, killing someone who has been in their area forever sucks because EVERYONE Wanted to give us food this weekend. I'm pretty sure I gained 5 more pounds. At one couple's house, between Wheat and me, we're pretty sure we ate an entire cow. And fermented OJ. It's fine because we prayed over it. haha

Wasn't the christmas devotional perfect?? I got to watch in English, so that was super fun! I love Christmas. #HEISTHEGIFT

Also there is this Holiday for Mary called Purisima (means Very Pure) and they go crazy for it here. Everyone was running around with fireworks and going door to door praying at Mary shrines. See photo. It's super sad. And gross. Even if Christmas in the states is commercialized at least Satan isn't diverting so much attention to Christ's mother like he does here. But it's ok. We'll teach them all :)

And the other photo is of the best zone EVER!!

Till next week!
Love, Hermana Gubler

Time Flies When You're Having Fun

Blurry Baptism Photo
Not sure what to say but that this transfer has one week left and I have no idea where it went! I am going to miss Hermana Wheat SO MUCH. I can't say enough about her. I would have been happy to have 5 more transfers here in Los Laureles with her. I'm so glad we're both at BYU and can be buddies when I get home :) I've been so lucky with companions so far I'm just holding my breath until I get a crazy one. Start praying for my next one. haha

Hermana Wheat and I discovered we had the same physical science TA at BYU and we both totally had crushes on him except for the fact that he was starting to bald. So funny. Also you should all go to her blog this week and read the post because it outlines a few blonde moments I had this week that were pretty hilarious.

This week we baptized another nine year old boy named Daniel! He is the most pilas kids of all the pilas kids. So cute. His family is seriously the best. We're currently teaching his brother in law too and hoping to get everyone in the household baptized and to the temple :)

Oh and happy thanksgiving!! We were so happy to have mashed potatoes and chicken without bones from our lunch cita. I was dreaming of gravy and turkey, but hey, close enough :)

AND! Christmas is coming up.... you know what that means... SKYPE DATE. Entonces.. family! I want you to think of some questions or things you want to talk about on skype so Im not awkwardly like sitting there talking in Spanish to show off the whole time. HA. No, but really. Anything you want to know?? Get thinkin ;)

Well I love you tonnnssssss!! Have an amazing week :)

Somos Las Manos de Cristo

Mary and Maryurie and family! Her baby is the cutest thing ever. Miss them.
Thanks for the birthday emails! It was so good to hear from you :) My birthday passed pretty simply... My comp put balloons and signs all over the place while I was sleeping. Apparently I woke up and looked straight at her but I don't remember so it's fine. Greatest surprise :) And then we went to Subway and investigators and members wished me a happy birthday throughout the day. I can't believe I'm 20. Like what?? It's even weirder that I'll be 21 when I leave. WHAT. But the time seriously flies. I love it here! It goes too fast.

This week I got to go on exchanges with my would-be companion Hermana Alan! She is the most POWERFUL teacher. And I also went on exchanges with... Hermana Bernards! In Villa Venezuela! I got to see all my recent converts and it was seriously the best day. I could just see the difference in their eyes. The gospel really does change people.

We also had stake conference this week all about missionary work and it was SO GREAT! Just a challenge for ya'll... go find out who the missionaries are for our stake and instead of praying for all the missionaries in general in your prayers, start praying for them by name! Offer to help them in any way that they need. I know we live in Utah but really. Pilas (cook, awesome, fantastic) members make all the difference.

And last I want to finish with a neat story... Hna Wheat and I went to go visit a menos activo (less active) family this week, and when we got there we found out that they had just gotten the news that their cousin had been kidnapped and her sister was found half dead in Guatamala. We were able to pray with them and offer our support. The next day we went back and the mom told us, after I asked how she could tell that Christ loved her, that every time something bad has happened in her family the missionaries have unexpectedly shown up at their door. She knew Christ loved her because He always sent the missionaries when she most needed to feel loved. I love the opportunity that I have to be a servant of the Lord in this way. This really is His work and His church!

Love, Hermana Gubler

My compas decorations for my birthday. She put them up at night. What a gem.

My favorite is the balloon that says pretend this is an anthro dress. Love her.
And Fanny! Miss her too.
